Circumlocution

Circumlocution 是一个名词。它指的是为了避免直接回答问题而绕圈子说话,使用过多的词汇来表达简单的意思。

  1. “Economic downturn” is often used as a circumlocution for “recession”. (“经济下滑”经常被用作“经济衰退”的委婉说法。)
  2. He is a master of circumlocution, never giving a straight answer to any question. (他是绕圈子说话的高手,从未直接回答过任何问题。)
